The German telephone manufacturer Gigaset is stomping out its smart home division. The manufacturer was able to sell part of its business operations as part of insolvency proceedings, but the company did not find a buyer for its smart home product business.
As Gigaset announced, the company has to discontinue cloud services for its smart home solutions. Gigaset managed to find a buyer company, VTech, for parts of its business operations as part of the insolvency administration, but not for the smart home division. Gigaset said it was unable to find an alternative buyer for the smart home and care sector “despite intensive efforts and support from a renowned M&A advisor”. For reasons of insolvency law, the company could not continue to operate the division.
Gigaset must discontinue all apps for the smart home and networked devices by March 29, 2024. The same applies to camera service packages that have already been booked.
According to the statement, Gigaset regrets the inconvenience caused to its customers. If there are claims against Gigaset, these are now insolvency claims. Those affected should register these with a court-appointed administrator. According to the notification, it is not possible to return the devices.
