MotionProtect Curtain is a wireless curtain motion detector. Designed for indoor use with a narrow horizontal detection angle, the detector is intended to monitor windows, doors and other entrances and exits in the protected facility. MotionProtect Curtain detects movements at a distance of up to 15 meters.
The MotionProtect Curtain, connected to the hub via the protected Jeweller protocol, is part of the Ajax security system. The transmission distance is up to 1700 meters without obstacles. The detector can operate for up to 3 years on the pre-installed battery.
The detector is set up via an app for iOS and Android smartphones. The app notifies the user of all events through push notifications, SMS messages and calls (if activated).
The user can also connect Ajax to the central monitoring station of a security service.
A connection to the ocBridge Plus and uartBridge integration modules is not provided.

The IR sensors of the MotionProtect Curtain detector detect intrusion into a protected area by detecting moving objects whose temperature is close to the temperature of the human body.
When the system is armed, the detector regularly monitors the signals from two IR sensors. When motion is detected, the detector immediately sends an alarm to the hub and signals this with a green flashing LED. In the event of an alarm, the hub activates the sirens and notifies the user and the security service.
The motion alarm is transmitted every 5 seconds.
To avoid false alarms, MotionProtect Curtain has a correlation signal processing function that users can enable in the detector settings . When the correlation signal processing function is enabled, the detector will only send an alarm to the hub if both PIR sensors detect identical motion signals. When the correlation function is turned off, MotionProtect Curtain will send an alarm even if only one of the two PIR sensors is triggered.

Register detectors at the hub
Before you start registering the detector:
- Turn on the hub and check the Internet connection (via Ethernet cable and/or GSM network).
- Install the Ajax app on your smartphone. Create an account, add a hub to the application and create at least one room.
- Check the hub status in the app and make sure the hub is disarmed and not performing updates.
Please note that only a user with administrator rights can add a device to the hub
How to connect the MotionProtect Curtain to the hub:
- Click Add Device in the Ajax mobile app.
- Name the device, scan the QR code or enter it manually (located on the detector body and its packaging), assign the detector to a room and click Add . The countdown will then start.
- Turn on the device by pressing and holding the power button for 3 seconds.
In order for detection and connection to occur, the device must be within the radio range of the hub and in the same protected object. A connection request is only sent to the hub when the device is switched on.
If the MotionProtect Curtain failed to connect to the hub, it will automatically turn off 6 seconds after powering on. You do not need to turn off the device to try again.
If MotionProtect Curtain has already been assigned to another hub, turn off the detector and follow the standard registration procedure.
After adding, the detector will appear in the list of hub devices in the app. The update of device statuses in the list depends on the polling interval set in the hub settings. The default value is 36 seconds.
If the detector detects motion before the system is armed, it will not arm immediately but will arm the next time the hub pings.

Functional test
The Ajax security system allows you to check the proper functioning of the connected devices.
Tests start within 36 seconds (default setting). The start time of the test depends on the detector's polling interval settings (under Jeweler in the Hub settings).
Selecting the detector location
The effectiveness of the security system depends on the location of the detector. When choosing the installation location for MotionProtect Curtain, consider the direction of the light filter and obstacles that may affect the detector's field of view and the transmission of the radio signal.
When installing, pay attention to the detection range of the detector and the beam width of the sensor. Incorrect placement of the detector will lead to false alarms or incorrect functioning of the detector.
Horizontal and vertical detection anglesDetection range of the detector | Beam width |
3 meter | 0.3 metres |
6 metres | 0.6 metres |
9 meters | 0.9 metres |
12 metres | 1.25 metres |
15 metres | 1.55 metres |
Device is intended for indoor installation only.
Do not install the detector in the following locations:
- outside the premises (outdoors)
- in front of the window when direct sunlight falls on the light filter
- towards objects with rapid temperature changes (e.g. electric and gas heaters)
- towards moving objects with a temperature close to the temperature of the human body (moving curtains over the radiator)
- in places with rapid air circulation (fans, open windows or doors)
- near metallic objects and mirrors that can attenuate or shield a radio signal
- in rooms with temperature and humidity values outside the permissible range
- closer than 1 meter to the hub
If the detector reacts to faults and triggers false alarms, but it cannot be installed in another location, activate the correlation signal processing function in the settings.
Please note that when correlation signal processing is switched on, the range of motion detection is reduced depending on the sensitivity level of the detector.
sensitivity | Motion detection range with signal correlation processing enabled* | Motion detection range with signal correlation processing switched off* |
Low | Up to 6 m | Up to 11 m |
Normal | Up to 7 m | Up to 13 m |
High | Up to 8 m | Up to 15 m |
*at an ambient temperature of 23°C
If possible, avoid locations where the detector will detect movement further away than necessary. The best place to install the detector is within a closed contour. For example, install the detector directly in the doorway to control movement through the arch. Then the detector will only be triggered when a person passes through it.
To prevent the detector from reacting to pets, it must be installed upside down so that the animals can move freely outside the detection area.
The installation location of the MotionProtect Curtain depends on the distance to the hub and obstacles between the devices that can interfere with the radio signal: walls, floors, solid objects in the room.
Check the signal strength at the installation location. If the signal level is one bar, we cannot guarantee the stable operation of the security system. Take all possible measures to improve the signal quality! At the very least, you should move the device - even 20 centimeters can significantly improve the reception quality.
If the device has a weak or unstable signal strength at the other location, use a signal-boosting wireless repeater .
The orientation of the detector's light filter should be at right angles to the expected entry path into the room.
Make sure that furniture, houseplants, vases, decorative or glass structures do not block the detector's field of view.
We recommend installing the detector at a height of 2.4 meters
Installing the detector at a height other than the recommended one will narrow the detection zone and may affect the quality of motion detection.
Remember that MotionProtect Curtain does not detect movement behind the glass, so do not install the detector in locations where glass structures may limit the view, such as locations where an open window may limit the device's viewing angle.
Installing the detector
Before installing the detector, make sure that you have chosen a suitable installation location and that it complies with the requirements in this manual!
There are two ways to install MotionProtect Curtain:
- directly on a surface
- on the supplied bracket.
Assembly:
- Fasten the SmartBracket plate or bracket to the surface using the screws provided or other equally reliable fasteners. Fasten the SmartBracket plate to the bracket provided using the screws.
- Place the detector on the SmartBracket mounting plate.
- Attach the detector to the SmartBracket mounting plate with a screw.
Use the double-sided tape only to temporarily fix the detector in place. Over time, the tape will dry out, which may cause the detector to fall and trigger a false alarm from the security system. In addition, the device may be damaged by a blow/impact.
If the detector's indicator light does not light up after placing it on the SmartBracket, check the tamper alarm status in the Ajax app and then check that the mounting plate is firmly in place. If you remove the detector from the surface or mounting plate, you will receive a notification.
After installing the detector, perform the detection area test . In case of faulty operation, install the detector in a different location.
Maintenance of the detector and battery replacement
Regularly check the functionality of the MotionProtect Curtain detector. If necessary, clean the detector housing of dust, cobwebs and other contaminants. Use a soft, dry cloth suitable for device maintenance.
Do not use substances containing alcohol, acetone, gasoline and other active solvents to clean the detector. Wipe the lens very carefully and gently - scratches on the plastic can affect the sensitivity of the detector.
The installed battery ensures autonomous operation for up to 3 years (at a hub polling interval of 3 minutes). When the battery is almost discharged, the security system sends a notification and the LED pulses slowly when the detector detects motion or the tamper button is triggered.
